Tauntauns became a trusted form of transportation for the Rebel Alliance on Hoth. Their speed even made them a favored option of rebel commanders Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of which use the domesticated beast to swiftly move through the frontline to lead their troops.

This expansion brings Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, mounted on their tauntauns to the Rebel Alliance army. Luke Skywalker is a new Commander option, while Han Solo is a new Operative option for Rebel Alliance and Echo Base Defender Battle Forces. Each brings new Command Cards and abilities to help the Rebellion in its fight against the Empire.

Luke Skywalker first encounters a tauntaun while patrolling the icy plains near Echo Base. After a wampa attack leaves him dangling upside down in a cave, he uses the Force to free himself and barely escapes into the freezing night.  Han Solo ventures out on his own tauntaun to search for Luke despite warnings of dropping temperatures. He finds Luke near death from hypothermia, slices open the tauntaun with a vibroblade for emergency warmth, and radios for rescue.​​

These large, shaggy snow lizards were ridden by Rebel scouts for patrolling Hoth's caves and glaciers due to their speed and adaptation to the cold.
